Be My Heart Healthy Valentine

Individuals with diabetes chance of having a stroke is 1.5 times higher than individuals who do not have ‪#‎diabetes‬.

Other risk factors include: history of stroke or transient ischemic attack, family history of stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, high LDL (bad cholesterol), low HDL (good cholesterol), physical inactivity, and smoking.

A person with diabetes can lower their risk by keeping their blood glucose (blood sugar), blood pressure and cholesterol on target with healthy eating, physical activity, quitting smoking and, if needed, medicine.

Screening is recommended at least every year for diabetic patients to make sure their lipids are under control. At DiAMC we provide lipid screening and education about healthy choices to help keep blood sugar and cholesterol levels on target, as well as resources and education on smoking cessation.
